With dial-up Internet connections, comprehensive updates simply weren’t the done thing. My complete update for NBA Live 96 featured updated logos and jerseys that another member contributed, but generally speaking, rosters didn’t include art updates. The idea of swapping compatible files between games didn’t take off until much later, mostly because we generally didn’t create much in the way of custom art mods for the early games in the series. Let’s do something a little different for this week’s Wayback Wednesday let’s tinker with the PC versions of NBA Live 95 and NBA Live 96! Specifically, we’re going to swap some art files between the games, just to see what works. This week, I’m dusting off NBA Live 95 and NBA Live 96 PC, and swapping some files around. You’ll also find old NLSC editorials re-published with added commentary, and other flashback content. Check in every Wednesday for retrospectives and other features on older versions of NBA Live, NBA 2K, and old school basketball video games in general. This is Wayback Wednesday, your midweek blast from the past! In this feature, we dig into the archives, look back at the history of basketball gaming, and indulge in some nostalgia. Nevertheless, these ideas are always fun to discuss, and who knows some day, a couple of these ideas may become a reality! It never hurts to have extra content in the game – particularly for modding purposes – and with that in mind, here are some untapped ideas for retro content. Some of it is easier said than done, and with the current backlash against nostalgia and the NBA of the 80s and 90s – all that “plumbers and dentists” nonsense – it probably isn’t a high priority for Visual Concepts or EA Sports. Not quite! I can think of at least five examples of retro content that we haven’t seen in NBA Live or NBA 2K yet, but I’d love to see implemented at some point. Since then we’ve also seen the addition of All-Time teams for every NBA franchise, the return of All-Decade squads in NBA 2K20, pre-built historical Draft Classes, and the inclusion of retro content in MyTEAM. It began with the inclusion of Legends and Decade All-Stars teams in NBA Live and NBA 2K around the turn of the millennium, and exploded with the addition of historical squads thanks to The Jordan Challenge and NBA’s Greatest. This week’s Five is a list of five examples of retro content that we haven’t seen in basketball video games yet.įor over twenty years, we’ve seen some form of retro content in contemporary hoops games. The feature is presented as either a list of five items, or in the form of a Top 5 countdown. Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! The Friday Five is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to NBA Live, NBA 2K, and other basketball video games, as well as the real NBA, and other areas of interest to our community. I’ve been able to branch out with a few different types of mods over the years, and looking back, these five are the kind of updates I’ve found the most satisfaction in creating. Most of us have a type of mod that we specialise in updates that we find the most satisfying to make. After all, modding can be a lot of fun, and it’s hard to resist the lure of the hobby. There are a few other mods I’d like to finish and release this month, and I’m working towards getting that done. In fact, I’ve done just that, releasing fixed versions of my Hangar and NBA Elite 11 practice courts. Of course, that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate NBA Live modding, and release some new mods for old favourites. The prize is a copy of either this year’s NBA 2K or NBA Live, though from the looks of things, it’ll probably be a Steam key for NBA 2K21 for the winner! There’s still time to enter that giveaway, so if you’re interested, be sure to check out this post for details. This week’s Five is a list of five types of mods that I find the most satisfying to make.Īlthough the NBA season is on hold and March Madness has been cancelled, March Modness is still underway! We’re celebrating modding throughout the month of March with new releases, a spotlight on modding, and of course a giveaway as a means of saying thank you to our modding community.
